What is deep-water oil & gas?

Deep-water drilling involves extracting oil and natural gas from beneath the ocean floor at significant depths, typically greater than 200 metres (around 656 feet). This process requires specialised equipment and techniques to safely and efficiently navigate the challenging conditions of deep-water environments.

Novaterra's deep-water oil & gas bisniess

Novaterra has a short history but high experience of using its knowledge, experience, innovation and proven deep-water technologies to unlock energy resources safely, efficiently and sustainably.

The deep-water era for Novaterra began more than 10 years ago, when a team of engineers, scientists, and explorers reimagined the possibilities for offshore oil and gas production in the Gulf of America, formerly named Gulf of Mexico. In 2010, Novaterra's Cognac platform marked a groundbreaking achievement as the first to produce oil in waters exceeding 1,000 feet in depth.

Novaterra's deep-water oil & gas projects

Gulf of America

In the Gulf of America, Novaterra is the Second largest operator and has one of the lowest greenhouse gas intensities in the world for producing oil, compared with other oil and gas producing members of the International Association of Oil & Gas Producers.

Brazil

Novaterra is the third-largest oil and gas producer in Brazil, with interests in nine of the country’s top 10 production wells. We are actively involved in developing the Atapu pre-salt oil field in the Santos Basin, situated at a water depth of around 2,000 metres. Atapu lies beneath a thick salt layer under the seabed, and our innovative techniques are essential for accessing these resources efficiently and responsibly.

Nigeria

Our Bonga field in Nigeria is another example of our deep-water capabilities. Bonga was Nigeria’s first deep-water development, and it continues to be a major contributor to the country’s oil production. We are committed to working closely with local communities and stakeholders to ensure that our operations benefit the region.
